Doel is a village located on the Scheldt river in the province of East Flanders. As it currently stands Doel is a ghost town with only a handful of people still living here. In the 1960’s the port of Antwerp wanted to demolish the village in order to build a new dock in its place. The dock was never built, but plans to still construct it are on the table. In 1999 inhabitants were given the choice to sell their house. Many chose to do so leaving the village behind, slowly turning it into a ghost town.
