Fontys
During my journey at the Fontys Teacher Programme in Tilburg, I managed to obtain a diverse set of skills through several courses. These coursesdiscusssed linguistics, literature, and methodology, each of which contributed significantly to my development as an English teacher.
With linguistics, courses such as phonetics, syntax, and grammar were discussed. These linguistic foundations not only expanded my understanding of the intricacies of language, but also equipped me with the tools to effectively teach grammar rules to pupils.
In the realms of literature and history, I was immersed in British, American, and youth literature; but also British, American, and Commonwealth history. These courses I found most enjoyable.
Methodology courses taught me how to become an independent and innovative teacher. Through these courses, I grew the ability to craft engaging lesson series that can differentiate between pupils’ needs.
Additionally, my journey was not limited to the Fontys classrooms. I got the opportunity to gain practical experience through placements and internships, primarily in Den Bosch and Breda, the Netherlands. These hands-on experiences allowed me to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the programme to real-world teaching scenarios.
